The Omni Summer Away Day
We ventured into the water - about 50 yards from our door!In celebration and recognition of our fantastic new office, we started our away day with a tour of the historic Underfall Yard, which include a peek inside the workshop and sluice room. It was great to find out more about Bristol’s history and the important role this amazing location has played in the maritime and engineering industries. On top of this, we got to meet some our of neighbours and catch a glimpse of the vital work that goes on here every day, from balancing the levels of Bristol’s floating harbour to boat restoration and water safety training.
We then headed over to SUP Bristol, another one of our neighbours here at Underfall Yard, for a stand up paddle boarding session! Unfortunately we missed out on the 30 degree summer heat wave by just a couple of days, so we suited up in water resistant jackets and life jackets. Even though it was windy and overcast, the water itself was quite warm so we weren’t too worried when we fell in which admittedly happened quite often… Out on the river we learned various paddle boarding techniques, played games and had a relay race. After this we paddled down towards the SS Great Britain, which was nice and easy with the wind behind us, but getting back against the wind was somewhat harder!
After our adventures around harbour, we dried ourselves off and had some lunch at our new local cafe Pickle. With the sun finally appearing from behind the clouds, we made our way down to Wapping Wharf for ice cream and cider in the sun.
It was a truly Bristolian day and a great opportunity to experience and appreciate all the brilliant things we have on our doorstep. Who said an away day needs to be far away?
